Finding the right swimwear for kids and teens is not always easy, considering how choosy they can be. On this page we outline some advantages of modest swimwear and give you some ideas how to make up your own outfit, which might be cheaper.

Wet and Dry Advantages

Most teenagers enjoy swimming in clothes while they get used to the changes of puberty. Modest swimming clothes for teens should be fun and comfy They must not get in the way of play. For fun on the beach you want quick drying outfits that feel good both wet or dry.

Modest swimwear has a lot of advantages over the usual swimming suit: A sporty swim shirt can be worn all day, in and out of the water, so it’s ideal for those summer days outdoors, around the pool, at the beach or out in the boat.

  1. Protection from the sun. In holiday destinations swimming pools are often outdoors, especially in the water based theme parks. The hot sun of these countries beats hard on your skin. We have all seen how sun burnt skin becomes when we came back from holidays in such places. Of course sun-screen helps, but after the first application, it is difficult to repeat once you're in the water. In addition, a good sunscreen is rather expensive.

  2. Protection from the cold. Do you notice how your children start shivering after a while in the water? Full length swimwear keeps them warmer, unless it's cotton.

  3. It teaches your kids to dress in a modest way, introduces them early to modest attire. Besides, learning to swim in clothes is an essential water safety skill.

Lycra Swimsuits

The suits look like one piece wet suits and they are designed to protect from the sun. It's a good solution for kids that want to be modest, but want to look a little more modern. Fullbody swimming suits helps solve these sunburn problems. Their arms, back and legs are protected from the sun. No more red peeling skin.

Swim Shirts and Shorts

T-shirts and Jeans

T-shirts and jeans make up robust swimwear for wet and wild games. This reduces the risk of cuts and bruises and is probably the least expensive option.

Clothes tend to widen a little bit in the water so your kids can wear old clothes which they would outgrow soon anyway. Please note that cotton can get cold quickly when out of the water. It is best for warm climates or indoor venues.

Waterwear

Waterwear is just a fancy name for waterproof or windproof water sports clothes designed to be worn in the water, like anoraks and rain pants. A thin anorak and matching pants make a comfy swimsuit that also dries out quickly. Most pools will accept it, provided it is clean and fits well.

Reader Comment: Surprise Swim

It was a warm but rainy day when I came past the local swimming pool (which allows for modest swimwear) and saw my friends playing around in there. Then I realised that I didn't bring my swim shirt and pants, or a change of clothes so I could have jumped in as I were. Too bad.

"Why don't you swim in your rain suit?" one of them asked. Great idea. I took off my clothes, put on just my unlined rain suit, and jumped into the pool. To my surprise the suit felt pleasant and comfortable. It was easy and fun to swim in.

Afterwards, I changed into my dry clothes, shook the water off my rain suit and put it back on. What a simple and practical idea. Why didn't I think of that earlier? Now many of my friends and family do the same when we go swimming, instead of carrying around extra swimwear.
